Adair Limited is a property and construction consultancy with offices in London, Surrey, the Midlands, Leeds and Gibraltar, with further expansion into Dubai planned. With over 40 staff and 32 years of successful business experience, Adair has built a strong reputation within the industry.

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Head of People & Culture to further develop our company culture and establish, develop and implement HR initiatives that align with Adair’s business objectives and ambitious growth strategy.

This is a key leadership role, working closely with senior management to develop and deliver a strategic workforce plan, attract and retain high-quality talent, support organisational growth and ensure Adair continues to be an employer of choice.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of all HR functions and proven experience in developing and implementing people strategies within a growing organisation. They will be responsible for attracting new talent to Adair through our strong brand and reputation, social media presence and relationships with recruitment consultants.

The Role

  • Developing and implementing the company’s HR policies, procedures and programmes.
  • Ensuring all HR policies and practices comply with current employment legislation and legal requirements.
  • Overseeing all HR functions across the business, providing a comprehensive generalist HR service.
  • Developing, monitoring and implementing Adair’s people management strategy.
  • Developing and delivering a strategic workforce plan in support of the company’s growth objectives.
  • Managing the HR department’s annual budget and associated financial planning.
  • Reporting on HR performance, progress and key people metrics to senior stakeholders.
  • Leading change management, organisational development and employee training initiatives.
  • Directing recruitment activity to support the company’s business growth strategy.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with recruitment agencies and consultants to ensure the selection of high-quality candidates.
  • Developing and implementing initiatives to attract new talent using Adair’s brand, reputation and social media channels.
  • Managing employee benefits and welfare programmes.
  • Supporting employees with career development, training and professional growth.
  • Advising management and employees on employment law, HR policies and regulations.
  • Guiding management on employee relations, performance management and best practice.
  • Handling employee complaints, disciplinary procedures and other employee relations matters.
  • Assisting with salary negotiations and employment-related issues.
  • Developing and implementing initiatives to improve the overall employee experience.
  • Arranging appropriate employee support services, including counselling and wellbeing services where required.
  • Working with HR information systems and ensuring accurate and effective HR administration.
  • Providing leadership and support to managers across the business on all people-related matters.
  • Ensuring the company’s people practices support its values, culture and long-term strategic objectives.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen effectively and understand the needs of others.
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to act as a visionary and influential leader within the business.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to support and execute the company’s growth strategy.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills, including financial planning, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and deal effectively and professionally with conflict.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong morals, ethics and sound judgement.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing organisational change.
  • Experience working with HR information systems.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits, welfare, career development and training.
  • Proven experience in employee relations and performance management.
  • Experience in recruitment and talent attraction, ideally within a growing organisation.
  • Experience of working with recruitment agencies and external consultants.
  • Experience of developing, implementing and administering HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience of introducing programmes and initiatives designed to improve employee engagement and experience.
  • Qualifications and/or significant professional experience in Human Resource Management.

Flexible Working

Adair is open to a flexible working arrangement for the right candidate, including a working pattern that can accommodate school-run commitments.

Core availability between 10.00am and 2.00pm would be preferred, together with flexibility to attend occasional evening events and company functions when required. The exact hours and working pattern can be agreed with the successful candidate, allowing us to find an arrangement that works effectively for both the individual and Adair.
