The Welbeck Estates Company works to conserve, protect and develop an evolving and sustainable estate and acts as its commercial arm. The company manages more than 5,000 acres of woodland and farm more than 4,000 acres, with a further eight farms and a number of smallholdings managed by tenants. Nestled in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, Welbeck extends to some 15,000 acres straddling the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Adair were appointed as Quantity Surveyors and Employer’s Agents for the refurbishment of farm buildings on the estate. Located in two separate districts, Holbeck and Belph, the Grade II listed stone farm buildings had been left unused and in a bad state of repair for quite some time. The sites had no mains gas or drainage and had suffered from historical contamination. Additionally, some of the farm buildings had been extensively damaged by fire and there were further environmental issues including bats, nesting barn owls, tree preservation orders and archaeological finds.
Part of our services required implementing a value for money process to show that the agreed contract sum provided good value. We were able to use our extensive benchmarking for residential developments to demonstrate this. The projects provided exclusive residential properties for sale and rental and we were able to advise our client on levels of specification.
“Adair are very professional and totally committed to delivering a project to the best specification possible. They are able to steer complex projects to a successful conclusion by engaging the right skills, process and attitude”
